The Dalai Lama thanked the Swiss authorities and the population of Switzerland for hosting the first Tibetan refugees 50 years ago. During the first day of his visit to Switzerland, the Tibetan spiritual leader met Pascale Bruderer, the president of the National Council.
The meeting took place in the framework of the visit of the spiritual leader of Tibet Institute in Rikon (ZH). The mayor of Zurich Corine Mauch (PS) and the President of the State Council Regine Aeppli Zurich (PS) were also present.
"The discussion was very interesting and impressive", said Pascale Bruderer. The Dalai Lama thanked her and showed great appreciation for the hospitality granted by Switzerland to the Tibetans in exile.
The spiritual leader has never considered the attitude of the Swiss solidarity for granted, reported the socialist. He has discussed this many times. The first Swiss citizen for his part highlighted the successful integration of the Tibetan community in Switzerland.
About 400 Tibetans in Switzerland, many supporters and federal parliamentarians participated in a ceremony entitled "Thank Switzerland", organized by the Tibetan associations in Zurich Oerlikon. Obviously febrile, Tibetans, including many in traditional dress, welcomed the spiritual leader standing in complete silence.
Addressing the public in Tibetan, the Dalai Lama this time thanked the Swiss government, aid organizations and the Swiss people for the "incredible" helping Tibetan refugees. The Federal Council did not send a representative.
